What is the Civil Air Patrol?

The Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. An all-volunteer organization, it is tasked with three main missions: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services. CAP also works with Homeland Security and performs missions for the Red Cross, law enforcement, and other organizations. There are two types of members: cadets, who are 12 through 21, and senior members, who can be 18 or older. Both types of members where Air Force-style uniforms and follow a similar grade structure.
